FARM SANCTUARY : Spring is a time of new life and renewed hope, but, sadly, many farm animals become victims of neglect and abuse this time of year after they are bought for novelty Easter gifts and then discarded or forgotten when  the reality of their long-term care becomes evident.

Photographers who use real rabbits as props

in Easter photos shouldn't expect anything in their baskets but plastic grass!!!

    Rabbits :

    http://www.peta.org/issues/Companion-Animals/facts-on-rabbits.aspx

are easily stressed by unfamiliar surroundings and terrified by loud noises and sudden movements.

They often panic when handled, and a frightened rabbit can bite or scratch children.

    http://www.peta.org/issues/wildlife/rabbits.aspx

*They are also delicate animals whose spines can snap if they kick or if they're dropped or even held improperly.

*** And when Easter is over, these animals are often abandoned at shelters or dumped outside, where they are killed by predators.

    Did You Know?

    • Rabbit communities can reside underground in extensive, complex, engineered burrows.

    • When being chased, rabbits will run in zigzag formations to confuse, rather than outrun, their predators.

    • In the spring, some types of hares are seen chasing one another and having frequent boxing matches. It was once thought that this behavior signaled competition between males. However, scientists now know that it is typically a female boxing a male.

    • The female is either signaling that she is not ready to mate or is testing the male's endurance and strength.

    • Rabbits scope out "bolt-to" locations before choosing a grazing location. Rabbits in open fields or yards will sit perfectly still to avoid their predators and bolt to their predesignated area when alarmed.

    • In arid areas, some rabbits are known to climb sloping tree trunks or limbs to access green or dew-laden vegetation.

    • Rabbits produce two types of droppings—one is a hard, light-colored pellet made of feces, and the other is soft, dark, undigested food material. To gain nutrients from undigested food, rabbits will re-ingest these droppings to further digest the material.

    • ***As you know WE don't support businesses that use live animals as props.

Many national portrait studios have policies against using live animals :)

♥ TIPS  for ""our"" Furry Friends  during Easter Holidays :

Easter Treats and Decorations Keep Easter lilies and candy bunnies in check—chocolate goodies are toxic to cats, dogs and ferrets, and lilies can be fatal if ingested by our furry friends.

Keep chocolate away  ! . Chocolate is  toxic ! Symptoms from chocolate ingestion include hyperactivity, tremors, racing heartbeat, and seizures. Chocolate  can be fatal

And be mindful, kitties love to nibble on colorful plastic grass, which can lead to an obstructed digestive tract, severe vomiting and dehydration.

Moreover, while bunnies, chicks and other festive animals are adorable, resist the urge to buy—these cute babies grow up fast and often require specialized care!  ( read above about rabbits )

*Alcoholic beverages and some wrapping items as  balloons , cellophane, ribbons,  and other festive wrappings or decorations can be ingested and cause complications .
