I share with you this alert :
I am writing to you today to ask for your support for one of the worlds' most Iconic animals - the Kangaroo.
If you have been lucky enough to visit Australia and get up close and personal with kangaroos, you will know how docile these animals are. Although many of us may be under the impression that the kangaroo is a protected species and the law protects them from abuse, this is simply not the case. The fact is, if Australia can profit from its wildlife, any protection or laws go out the window.
Australia, which is home to many beautiful and rare animals is also home to the barbaric killing of over 3 million kangaroos, which are shot annually - a massacre that is so big that it has been labelled the largest killing of terrestrial (land based) wildlife in the world!
While peacefully grazing at night, kangaroos are targeted by shooters driving trucks with bright lights designed to spot and startle kangaroos. Although the shooters are supposed to kill them by a head shot, many kangaroos are shot in the neck, jaw or chest which causes a slow and excruciating death. Mother kangaroos with furless joeys or 'at foot' young are also brutally shot leaving countless joeys orphaned and at risk of dying from exposure to cold, starvation and predation from wild dogs and foxes.
The code of practice for the humane shooting of kangaroos, which is nothing more than a weak set guide of guidelines, advocates that pouch reliant 'furless' joeys can be killed by decapitation, while furred joeys can be hit over the head with a metal pipe. This is how Australia deals with its national emblem!
Australia is making a big profit from killing kangaroos, with kangaroo meat being exported to over 55 countries worldwide. The abused bodies of one of the most loved animals in the world are turned into everything from pet food and meat for human consumption to souvenirs such as coin purses made from kangaroo scrotum and even football boots.
I realise this information is shocking and saddening, but unless we all voice our opposition to this abhorrent cruelty - it will continue. Even if you don't live in Australia, there are many ways that you can help kangaroos, which we have listed below.
· Click here to sign our petition to Adidas asking them to stop using kangaroo leather.
· Pledge to never buy products made from kangaroo or any other wildlife. Click here to sign the pledge today.
· Tell a friend about how kangaroos are treated in Australia and encourage them to boycott kangaroo derived products.
· Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper about massacre of kangaroos. One published letter can reach thousands of people who may not know what is happening to kangaroos.
· Write to the Australian Government and voice your disgust. Send polite letters to:
The Hon Tony Burke
Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities

Together we can be a voice for kangaroos and fight to protect these beautiful animals from abuse and eventual extinction.
On behalf of all kangaroos, thank you.
