*** Canada is dismissive of the international opposition to the cruel seal hunt – the largest and most barbaric marine mammal slaughter on the planet.
Each year, the Canadian government gives hunters the green light to bludgeon to death hundreds of thousands of baby harp seals. During the slaughter, baby seals are shot or repeatedly clubbed. Sealers bludgeon the animals with clubs and "hakapiks" (metal-hook–tipped clubs) and drag the seals—who are often still conscious—across the ice floes with boat hooks.
Hunters toss dead and dying seals into heaps and leave their carcasses to rot on the ice floes because there is no market for seal meat. Veterinarians who have investigated the slaughter have found that hunters routinely fail to comply with Canada's animal welfare standards.
Baby seals are helpless and have no way to escape from the sealers' clubs. A Washington Post article on the seal slaughter described it this way: "[A] seal appearing to gasp for air, blood running from its nose as it lies on an ice floe. Not far away, a sealer sharpens his knife blade. The seal seems to be thrashing as its fur is sliced from its torso."
Please tell everyone you know about Canada's cruel slaughter of baby seals and urge them to contact the Canadian government to ask for an immediate end to this cruel slaughter.

here her note :
Help Stop The Seal Hunt Now and Forever!
The seal slaughter exists because of the overall demand for fur.
During Canada's annual war on seals, sealers routinely hook live seals in the eye, cheek, or mouth to avoid damaging the fur, then they drag the seals across the ice.
Many of these gentle creatures may not even have eaten their first solid meal or taken their first swim before they are slaughtered for their skin.
Namibia's Seal Slaughter :
The Evil's Face:
The world's cruellest slaughter of seals takes place every year in Namibia, and is due to start again on July 1st. Australian-based fur and skins company, Hatem Yavuz, is directly implicated in this annual brutal slaughter. Hatem Yavuz is the last remaining buyer of these dead seal pup skins to make them into fur coats.
Cape Fur Seals are directly related to the protected Fur Seals living on the southeast Australian coast and the Namibian Government has allowed 85,000 of these animals to be killed each year. Most pups are so young that they are still being nursed by their mothers. The terrified pups are rounded up, separated from their mothers and brutally clubbed to death.
The market for Namibian Cape Fur Seal skins has collapsed over recent years due to lack of demand and import bans in the European Union, the United States, Mexico and South Africa because of the cruelty involved in the sealing methods. As of 2008, Australian-based Hatem Yavuz is the only one company left buying seal skins from Namibia.
There is international pressure on Hatem Yavuz to stop funding this cull. Please add your voice and express your outrage to Hatem Yavuz for their culpability in animal cruelty, and call on them to commit to never again buying Namibian Cape Fur Seal skins.

****About CANADA :
Most people would agree that there is something terribly wrong with shooting and smashing in the skulls of baby seals, yet despite international outrage, the Canadian government allows sealers to beat and skin hundreds of thousands of these gentle creatures every year. So why is Canada killing seals?
The seal slaughter exists because of the overall demand for fur. During Canada's annual war on seals, sealers routinely hook live seals in the eye, cheek, or mouth to avoid damaging the fur, then they drag the seals across the ice. Many of these gentle creatures may not even have eaten their first solid meal or taken their first swim before they are slaughtered for their skin.
In 2009, the European Union voted to end the sale of seal products, and the U.S. Senate unanimously passed U.S. Senate Resolution 84, calling for an immediate end to the annual seal slaughter. It's time for Canada to wake up! And with the help of caring people like you, we can put an end to the slaughter once and for all.
*** SEA SHEPHERD : Stop the Canadian Seal Slaughter
The Canadian government states that they do not subsidize the "hunt." Our documentation has exposed this lie - time and again, we witnessed the Canadian Coast Guard ships breaking ice and leading sealing ships through the floes to get to the seal nurseries. [see Parade of Fools for more information]. Also, during bad weather, the Coast Guard were extremely busy rescuing sealers whose ships became locked in the ice.
We documented the Canadian Coast Guard ship running down and crushing seals in the ice. We documented hostile sealers viciously attacking our crew on the ice.
The Canadian government spent hundreds of thousands trying to make sure we did not take any pictures of seals being killed. Their Coast Guard vessel, Amundsen, kept close watch on us - sometimes, dangerously close.
Last year marked the first time in history that an anti-sealing vessel has gone to the Labrador Front to challenge the sealers. We were also the only organization in the world opposing the slaughter in the field off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. All previous campaigns have been in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, although Sea Shepherd had come close in 1983 when we blockaded the harbor at St. John's, Newfoundland, to prevent the sealing fleet from leaving. That action resulted in the only time the quota was not exceeded. In fact, there were 76,000 seals directly saved by that action.
In the spring of 2005, in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the seals had the support of the Sea Shepherd ship Farley Mowat in the ice and crews from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) who flew by helicopter to the ice when weather permitted.
The advantage the ship gave to Sea Shepherd was the ability to stay with the sealers in the ice despite the weather.
Another phase of our seal defense campaign - the Seal of Approval Campaign - is in full swing. The boycott of Canadian seafood is being promoted by Sea Shepherd and many other organizations and has two parts:
- We are asking individuals around the world to refrain from buying Canadian seafood from restaurants or grocery stores until the slaughter of harp seals is ended.
- We are recruiting restaurants, hotels, and food distributors to agree to not sell or serve Canadian seafood until the slaughter of harp seals is ended.
We need to expose what the Canadian government would like to keep hidden. We need to once again show the world the horror of the blood-drenched ice floes and the pitiful suffering of the young seal pups as they die. We need to keep the slaughter on the front pages in order to keep it from disappearing out-of-sight and, therefore, out-of-mind.
Please stand with us on the ice floes off Eastern Canada and hold up the banner for life, for the defenseless baby harp seals and their mothers.
